The Studio

“All great art is born of alchemy and going beyond death. But I make it gold by transcending my innards through hyperconsciousness.”
— Salvador Dalí

A Studio Without Limits.

Creativity here is not confined to a singles medium, method or discipline. Traditional painting, sculpture, digital painting and illustration, handcrafted design and mixed media experimentation offer different ways to explore an idea and bring it to life. Each project is free to take its own direction and become whatever the vision requires.

Featured Project

Mushroom Scupltures

Formed by hand from papier-mâché, each mushroom sculpture is shaped, textured, and individually painted before becoming part of a larger installation. Moss, stone, and mixed-media details are carefully layered around the finished forms, then assembled on a base or arranged within a thoughtfully chosen container. No two grow quite the same, giving every piece its own character and sense of place.

Commissions Now Open

Now taking commissions for Mushroom Sculptures for the 2026 Holiday Season! You can choose your base, mushroom type, color scheme and more. Follow the link for more product information.

The Process

Take a peek inside the process of our featured project and past projects.

The Mushroom tops are made from foam balls carefully cut in two and then mounted on sculpture wire. After the stems are built out from the wire, the entire mushroom is covered in several layers of papier-mâché.

After they are coated in primer, the mushrooms get a base coat of spray paint before being hand painted.  If you would like to learn more about the product we use, you can find out more in The Practice  section below where we also include tips and tricks we have learned throughout the process. Stay tuned for tutorial videos coming soon!

Once the mushroom have received base coats, they are embellished with handmade canvas skirts and puff paint. Then they are ready to be attached to the base and the real fun begins building each sculpture its own “ecosystem” of moss, plants, rocks and sometimes even little creatures.

The Practice

We want to share things we have learned along the way and some of our favorite products that help us get the job done.

Papier-Mâché

We have tried a LOT of different methods for papier-mâché over the years from combining flour and other ingredients and heating it on the stovetop to the simple school glue method and we believe we have found a winner!

Titebond III Ultimate Wood Glue is really the MVP of the studio when it comes to bonding layers of tissue paper together or when creating your own “paper clay”. It really excels in the clay projects. I have found it to be relatively quick drying compared to other methods we used in the past.

Paint We Can't Live Without

When it comes to acrylic paint, Golden Acrylic Paint Brand has been constant staple in our studio. The amount of pigment is so amazing you can dilute it for washes without loosing opacity. Their line of paint mediums frequent our shelves as well.

We included the puff paint from our featured project in the photo just in case you were wondering about it.

Behind the Brush

Meet Britt. She’s the creative force behind Black Swan Alchemist.

Most days you will find her with a pack of dogs at her feet and several irons in the fire.
